discovery classes in partnership with educational institutions.
The various fun and learning activities offered in the discovery classes are purposely designed with the aim for eager students to have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves and to experiment:
- they promote the development of younger students aged 2 to 7 by stimulating their curiosity,
-* they enable students aged 7 to 12 to improve their knowledge and sharpen their focus, - they allow older students aged 13 to 15 and 16 to 18 to simultaneously work on expanding their knowledge, discipline and skills.
The ability to learn in a different environment rich in information with access to a variety of support and high-quality scientific equipment increases the students’ autonomy and stimulates their responsibility towards knowledge and concept acquisition.
Furthermore, beyond just knowledge, it is really a whole Scientific Culture that the students gain through these trainings, stays and discovery classes, which will ultimately contribute to their future learning.

The interests of present-day youth
Children under 12 are literally interested in everything that goes on under their noses! But that is on the condition that it does not get boring, long and tedious. They are still, indeed, very restless and need help to focus their attention.
Pre-teens, ages 13 to 15, love challenges, which allow them to pursue their passion and their enthusiasm for technology to its full potential. We all know at least one young computer enthusiast who is always shows up late at the family dinner table! The epic of electronics (handcrafted construction of one’s own radio receptor), chemistry or even astronautics has already taken place in various countries. In order to prevent serious accidents amongst young people, many countries in the 1950’s began to gather people whom were passionate about electronics , computing, and space conquest...in associations and thanks to their support, they have become some of the best engineers in the world.
Teenagers, ages 16 to 18 enjoy science…however, as they are approaching adulthood, they are mainly drawn to it only when it provides solutions to some of the major human and global challenges such as hunger, health, power, development and ecology. Naturally, we are only talking about a small number of teenagers, as over time, the lack of science education has led to many beautiful young minds to shy away from their beautiful and curious minds.

An effort to raise awareness and educate on sustainability
Parents, cultural associations, museums, publishers and of course teachers, all have a duty to ensure that children, the world’s future citizens, preserve their curiosity and avoid at all costs its loss, either due to an overly theory-based or dull teaching, or a lack of learning of topics that could have caught their eye!
It is widespread to approach Science in a piecemeal manner, only restricting it to specific occasions. Nevertheless, there are teachers who are committed to a more in-depth, long-term science discovery, for example by offering projects throughout the year, concluding at times with Science Fairs. There are also] long-term Science Classes which add to the rhythm of the school year. It is in the latter case that OSI’s Science Discovery Classes have been established.

Science
Science has always been a means to advance humankind. To this day, basic and applied sciences are still intimately linked to technical and industrial systems that the global economy has developed. In spite of this, the respect, training and financial resources allocated to science are in decline, thereby slowing down the progress of entire industrial sectors, and hindering all that science could do to make this sector sustainable and beneficial to our planet and to humankind in terms of health, pollution prevention, protection of biodiversity, etc. This is the reason why these various basic and crucial science topics were added to the school curricula. And it is exactly these topics that OSI’s Science Classes allow to explore in depth.

Science education as a key to a better future
There are many aspects of daily life that depend on scientific and technological advancements. Training and education in the various fields of science and technology are therefore absolutely essential for all nations, not only to achieve sustainable development, but also to foster a civic responsibility for a scientific and technological culture.
The increasing lack of interest amongst children and the youth in science and technology across the world is therefore a major concern for Research Ministries around the world. Today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens and decision makers!
In the science and technology education sections of its website, UNESCO states: "At the beginning of a new century, one fact is clear: the future of humankind is increasingly determined by science and technology and by its applications. Science and technology education are therefore at the very core of development – or even survival - of human society. »

and practical solutions for sustainable development. In order to fulfill this mission, since 2005, OSI has been implementing a new Training in Research through Research practice program starting at age 7, with activities revolving around actual research topics. To achieve this, the organization is made of a team of scientists from a wide variety of research fields (geologists, archaeologists, ecologists, chemists, biochemists, biologists, mathematicians, physicists, architects, engineers...) who work in the Science Camps

Valuable and rewarding benefits for the educational institutions
What is most interesting in this dynamic is that the technical symposiums that are held throughout the year as well as the scientific and pedagogical researches carried out by our instructors increase by tenfold the effectiveness, relevance and charm of the stays offered to students.
During these science discovery classes, participants have a lot of fun, often even much more than during a sport outing, but at the same time, they are learning very interesting, relevant, sometimes totally unfamiliar and impressive but always exciting concepts. Yet, this is all natural as they are discovering them through hands-on practice and a lot of fun!
Each year, several scientists are involved in the development of the content and design of the programs and projects that are offered.

Diverse Science Class formats
Based on your starting point, goals and topics you wish to explore, several options are available: School outings, school field trips, or science discovery classes.
Nature Science Class : Strongly oriented towards the discovery of the environment, the Nature Science Class introduces many nature-related notions already part of your school curriculum, all the while focusing on a sensory discovery of Mother Nature and an insightful education on Sustainable Development. A Nature Science Class can, for example, be set up around topics such as volcanoes, the water cycle, marine mammals Marine Mammals Observe marine mammals in the Iroise Sea in Brittany. Watch them develop in their natural habitat. You can do this on ourplakton discovery sailing expeditions. , forest dwellers... and is mainly designed to accommodate students between the ages of 2 and 15. This type of Nature Science Class can also be conducted for students between the ages of 16 and 18, coming from highly urbanized areas, as this can be especially beneficial in their situation of social.
Science Discovery Class: Star of the range, this is our winning Science Class to date. Open for any technical or scientific fields (Nature, Astronomy, Robotics, Aeronautics, Chemistry, Archaeology, Architecture, Ancestral Cultures...),the Science Discovery Class combines convenience, challenge and discipline to introduce the learning as part of your school curriculum, while demonstrating it during the class or finishing the class with a real final touch. These Discovery classes can run from 5 to 10 days, and are held entirely around a single scientific, environmental or technical theme, and are organized using Project-based learning. It goes without saying that the students are also made aware of the need to preserve the environment, and this regardless of the purpose of their stay, given that many sport activities are offered and that our Science Camps Science Camps Our science camps are vacation camps where your children will discover a scientific domain which speaks to them: astronomy, archaeology, marine ecology... At the same time the will be able to do various outdoor activities: archery, swimming, hiking.... are intentionally always located “in the middle of nowhere” surrounded by nature. These Discovery Classes can be arranged on any occasion, at any time during the year and for all age groups.
- The Transplanted Class : Are you looking for a retreat in the heart of some breathtaking natural sites in order to provide your students with a long-term and a quality learning experience in a quiet setting? Check out the Rolls Royce of the range; The Transplanted Class allows you to continue giving language, mathematics, history, geography, and sports classes while a special emphasis is given to science lessons. Although this type of class is not effective over a period of just one week, where the Discovery Class is better indicated, the Transplanted class works wonders when given over a period of two to three weeks. Students will then not only carry out high level scientific projects adapted to their abilities, but they will also be able to cover all the other disciplines of their curriculum through the same project. For instance, students writing a press release about their ongoing science project will result in grammar and spelling being learned with increased attention. The need to collect samples in the field will be an opportunity for cycling or canoeing, and if the samples are on a tree top then the students will have a chance to practice tree climbing in a safe environment. Finally, the need to understand the challenges of the science project will allow the teaching of geography, history... concepts and in contrast, the challenging situation in which your students will find themselves will certainly make them particularly attentive during classes such as mathematics, chemistry or physics, during which many opportunities would be made available to address precisely the concepts they need to complete their ongoing science project..
Field trip : Universities and secondary schools will be particularly attracted by the idea of visiting various sites ( the sea to observe marine mammals Marine Mammals Observe marine mammals in the Iroise Sea in Brittany. Watch them develop in their natural habitat. You can do this on ourplakton discovery sailing expeditions. , the volcanoes, the observatory, a forest…) while having at hand an access to such a resourceful and valuable facility as offered by a Science Camp. Lasting from 1 to 5 days, this field trip is in most cases very intensive and will most likely require preparation and a set of instructions given to the students in order to prepare them and pf course to ensure they make the most out of the limited time they will have on site.
All these different Science Class models are offered by OSI and allow students to practice sharing their work with others through final presentations done either on the Camp and/or once back in their schools.

Worldwide destinations
Thanks to the network given by the organization’s Science Camps, you have the option to have your Science Class take place either nationally or internationally. Only slightly longer to organize than a “local” Science Class, a Science Class abroad will grant students the chance to live an incredible experience covering topics each more exciting than the previous, and for all age groups; To date, 13-18 year-old classes have traveled to Kyrgyzstan on the trail of Snow Leopards, 6-12 year-old classes were taken to Japan where they were hosted by families of Japanese students their age , for the purpose of learning about geothermal energy; another class went to an Inuit Village in northern Quebec in order to find and be introduced to ancient animal tracking techniques... the list of options is endless.

Some of you write to us after your Science Class and express your appreciation. These messages, which are very pleasant and appreciated by our team, are also very helpful for the teachers who may be considering to come to our Science Camps in the future.
We post and will be posting the comments that you send to us here.
«I got what I had come looking for - The uniqueness in this form of learning is more than appealing even if I was first wondering whether these three projects (Paradisaea - Sustainable Architecture and Snow Crystals) could actually be effectively implemented. In the end, there was no difference between what was introduced to me during the planning stage and the projects carried out on the field.
No more or less than overwhelming commitment and friendliness from each and every team member.
Thank you so much! »

"I must admit that I was a bit confused on the first day as this learning approach was new to me. But after the first few activities, my students really changed and kept wanting to learn more and more! Although one inspector had previously praised this way of launching your trainings, I didn’t realize at the time how different it would be from the usual procedure.
The level of knowledge acquired was made clear during the exhibition given by the children at the end of the stay, a big thank you to the entire team, our school will definitely come back to your Camp!!"

"A big thanks to you and your team for your hospitality, your availability and everything that you have provided to our students throughout this week. They learned so much, not only in science but in languages and human perspective. Moreover, I am quite sure they will keep great memories of their stay.
I had another look at the website and I find it interesting.
I would like to ask you to thank the instructors on my behalf one more time.
All teachers who were part of the trip were unanimous: we were delighted with the supervision and the content students learned during the stay…yet we are usually highly critical "
