Home > Introduction > Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4
We are honored to have a very high percentage of returning participants from one year to the next. This allows us to reach even further together.
Participants are grouped into different levels based on interests, age, past participation and technical knowledge of the subject (electronics, astronomy, biology...).
The purpose being to offer the most cohesive groups possible.
OSI scientific educators supervise our camp participants with a ratio of 1 educator-leader for every 6 participants. Together, 2 educators can easily lead 4 groups, with an average of 3 participants in each group.
While participants are grouped by age for sporting and cultural activities (7-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-18 years, etc.), it is possible that this will change for scientific activities: an 8 year old child who is participating in an OSI program for the second time, at the same camp in order to continue a project, and who has already mastered working with laboratory equipment could be placed in the same group as a 10 year old child who is attending an OSI camp for the first time. It’s never the same day twice for our participants who are allowed to indulge their passion for science Science La science est désormais l’affaire de tous. Découvrez la science d’une manière ludique et active. Nous vous proposons d’en découvrir plus sur nos expéditions à la voile, découverte du plancton. ... even the youngest who just want to go play in the cabin or under the trees after sitting still for an hour... under the watchful eye of our leader-educators.
Group levels are not fixed and a participant can decide to change their assigned group at any time, with everyone’s input. Our approach to education is based on cooperation with everyone co-organizing projects and the day’s programs. Working in groups allows our participants to enjoy their experiences to the fullest!
Group levels are assigned upon arrival. Activities on the first day allow both the leaders and participants to get to know their groups as soon as they are formed. To register for a camp, there is no need to choose a level, just pick the camp and the date of your choice.
Levels are as follows:
Level 1
7-9 years old
Level 2
10-12 years old for first time attendees and 7-9 years old for those who have previously attended an OSI camp
Level 3
13-15 years old for first time attendees and 10-12 years old for those who have previously attended an OSI camp
or
Adult camp participants who can choose to have a relaxing, educational holiday (for example taking a leisurely paced hike to record signs of animal presence – while the other participants have already started their day at 6:00 a.m.)
Level 4
16-18 years old for first time attendees and 13-15 years old who have previously attended an OSI camp
or
Groups of active adults volunteering on the project (e.g, getting up early to hike at dawn )
In this way, every day, and at the end of the stay, everyone is happy with their experience and everyone was able to live the scientific project at their own pace!
